Women's Success Network was started in 1985 and shortly thereafter established a scholarship for women who wished to continue their education. Press releases are sent out to all area newspapers in February of each year to announce the application process. Applicants are asked to demonstrate need, define goals, and explain how the money would be used when applying for the scholarship. A scholarship committee is formed each year to review all applications and vote on who the recipients will be. The scholarships are then awarded at the June dinner meeting.
The proceeds from our monthly meeting raffle support the scholarship fund. Members donate the products and services for the raffle.
One of the original members of WSN, Elizabeth F. Wajer, served on the board of WSN for six years using her own business resources to keep the membership list up to date, get the mailings for meetings coordinated and out on time, and publish The Connection directory on an annual basis. Liz was more than just a member and board member of WSN. She was committed to making WSN the outstanding organization it has become. She was a caring person and made newcomers feel welcome and offered support and encouragement to all.
Liz was diagnosed with ALS in 1996. The WSN board felt that Liz had given so much of her time and business acumen to WSN it was only fitting to name the WSN Scholarship in her honor. The motion was voted on and passed unanimously at the July 22, 1997 board meeting. She was honored at the September dinner meeting with her immediate family in attendance. She passed away on February 15, 1998 and is greatly missed.
